You may not believe it but Mardi Wareham used to have a conventional job as a newsletter editor at a large corporation! Now she jumps up and down and makes monkey noises for a living. As owner and chief performer at Singing Telegrams of Austin, she impersonates a gorilla, a chicken, Marilyn Monroe, Queen Elizabeth, Kermit the Frog and other characters.
Mardi is also a professional speaker at events and conferences where she tells stories about her adventures as a singing telegrammer for the past 10 years.
A former rule follower, Mardi now purposely breaks rules in order to be more original and bring her passion to work. She wants that for you, too. It will improve your life and improve your work performance.
Famed CEO Richard Branson has said that, “more than any other element, fun is the secret of Virgin’s success.” The Virgin group has more than 60 companies in 35 countries, employing almost 70,000 people.
In addition to speaking, Mardi leads ukulele team building workshops for groups of people at businesses and corporations. Most of the team building participants have never played a musical instrument and never studied music, but within an hour the group is playing songs on the ukulele, having a fantastic time together and working better as a team. Or if they are doing the singing telegram team builder, they are rehearsing their own, original singing telegram in costume.
Throughout her life, Mardi has followed her core belief that whatever you really love to do can be part of your work life. And that you have the right to be happy at work.
She moved to Austin from Vancouver, British Columbia in 2005 and is a citizen of both the U.S. and Canada.
